I almost have no words to express my levels of fury at images of reversed lead type.

(The latest abomination being the giant Sherlock Holmes posters at Flinders St Station. I get so angry that even Robert Downey Junior’s face can’t distract me.)

doctordarling:

The trailer for Gangs Of New York has lead type in it, and it makes me mad because its all reversed and frontfacing.

Facebook is proving to be quite useful for uni stuff. Was sent a link to this artist’s page by another student — hooray! The subject matter being researched is different, but the methods are very interesting.

It doesn’t even matter what you think. You know why, jagoff? Cause I’m famous. I am on every major operating system since Microsoft fucking Bob. I’m in your signs. I’m in your browsers. I’m in your instant messengers. I’m not just a font. I am a force of motherfucking nature and I will not rest until every uptight armchair typographer cock-hat like you is surrounded by my lovable, comic-book inspired, sans-serif badassery. Enough of this bullshit. I’m gonna go get hammered with Papyrus.

Dan Shepelavy notes, “A wonderful example of something so basic, so dashed off, so ordinary — some corrections on a galley proof — that happen to merge, by chance, into something really artful.” Resistance to stretch indeed.

At the library last year I worked with Frank Lovece from The Primitive Calculators. He’s absolutely one of my favourite people ever. When he saw me pick up a book on type from the stacks one day, we went on a search for writing by Jan Tschichold (after we’d figured out how to spell it). I borrowed this one from the uni library yesterday. I love the idea of the “morality of good design”.

About:

I'm a printmaker. I've recently been awarded my Master of Fine Art in Printmaking.

I used to keep a big folder containing all my research. This is the electronic version. "Once Upon a Spacetime" sounded far less filthy than "Crumpet's Big Box".

For less MFA and more TPB, Anybody want a peanut?.
